Spike

Definition:

In the SPIKE, one wingtip of the kite is driven decisively into the ground. The trick is entered from a vertical line down. In a ballet, the direction of the flight may be horizontal.

Key elements:

Clear and decisive stab. Held stable on the spiked wingtip for minimum two seconds

Judges view:

As an imposed trick: only vertical entry is allowed. 2 seconds stable! OUT can be anything that isn't a landing (=flying OUT). In a ballet, the spike may be done from a ground pass. The harder the kite is put down, the better the score.

Most common errors:

No firm putting down of the kite. Running forward to get the kite on the wingtip. No 2 seconds and/or very unstable.
